The golf season is over in Iowa. It may be nice this weekend, but flu from the swines have cut short any idea of swinging into a 35 degree wind chill day. Thus, I have decided to try my hand at novel writing. I came across a post about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, link here) which is a challenge to all the unpublished authors to write a 50,000 word novel in one month (or 1667 words a day).
Wow -a medical drama? Wry observations about golf? NO WAY. I asked myself, “What would make me the most money in the shortest amount of time and that means getting onto Oprah’s couch and rubbing my chin and looking serious?”
It means CHICK LIT, baby!
I’ve already set on the title of the novel: “The Abandonner: a Memoir of Regret.” If that doesn’t give you cramps and make you want chocolate, you aren’t a woman! Controversy? Undoubtedly! Best Seller? Dan Brown’s got nothing on me! Who is that masked man? The guy who rocks your Kindle, now come to Papa!
Golfism -life is a metaphor for golf 
Oooooh, nooo, Mike! Noooo! Say ain’t so. Like your title, btw. One day, while riding my scooter, a chick-lit title came to me out of the blue – “The Insatiable Wants of Sally Have.” Seriously, good luck with NaNoWriMo I’ve heard of it, and it sounds like quite the challenge.

Chris -it’s not such a bad category. My entire day involves observing the social interactions of women in their native habitats. Nuff said.
LOVE the artwork. Did you hear about the young doctor who wrote a best selling novel while in residency at Bellevue? Saw him on Today’s show but can’t remember his name.

‘Participants commit to start and complete a 50,000 word novel, starting November 1 and finishing November 30. Last year, over 30,000 writers “won” NaNoWriMo by completing their novels. This year, over 200,000 writers are expected to participate.
‘Over the years, several NaNoWriMo authors have gone on to become New York Times best-sellers. In the next few days, Smashwords will launch a special catalog, linked off of the home page, that will allow participating Smashwords authors
to upload their NaNoWriMo works-in-progress on a daily basis, track word counts, and promote and share their progress.’
Mark and his team over at Smashwords are a good grp. They’ve recently negotiated w/ B&N to have their e-books published there.
